ABOUT
Sylvia Reitzema is a contemporary artist born in London, who currently lives and works between Mallorca, Spain and England. She produces drawings and paintings using mixed media, oil paints and inks, often experimenting with different media and techniques.
Working from a series of drawings which were carried out on recent (pre COVID) travels through parts of Asia and Europe, she aims to represent the sublime found when in the natural environment, an observation which takes in layers that are found in nature, both geologically and metaphysically, a meditative awareness to the moment and the place.
Drawing on location has had a major influence on her work; from assembled drawings created when travelling through a landscape by road or train, to elevated views and studies of light, pattern and texture. She develops drawings in her sketchbook which are then transferred and developed further on canvas or paper, often using experimental techniques and mixed media to capture the energy of a place.
Sylvia studied the MA in Drawing as Process at Kingston University, 2001-2002 and a BA Hons in Fine Art at Academy Minerva, Holland, 1995-1997. She has over 20 years experience of being an Art & Design Lecturer having working mainly at Kingston University and Kingston College.
